coincidentally... i just got mail
yep, remember yesterday i was talking about that one movie? oddly enough i got a mail today that is super-similar to what i watched... so i thought i'd post it here. it's in original script, i shan't change anything, it's too good for that.
It was a busy morning, approximately 8 : 30 am, when an elderly gentleman in
his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb.
He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9 am.
I took his vital signs and had him take a seat,
knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him.
I saw him looking repeatedly at his watch and decided,
since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.
On examination, it was well-healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the
needed supplies to remove his stitches and redressed his wound.
While taking care of his wound, we began to engage in conversation.
I asked him if he had an important appointment that morning,
as he seemed to be in such a hurry.
The gentleman told me no ; that he only needed to go to the nursing home
to eat breakfast with his wife.
I then inquired as to her health.
He told me that she had been there for a while already
and that she was a victim of Alzheimer Disease.
As we talked, and I finished dressing his wound,
I asked if she would be worried if he was a bit late.
He replied that she no longer knew who he was ;
that she had not recognized him for five years now.
I was surprised, and asked him.
" And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are ? "
He smiled as he patted my hand and said :
“ She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is. "
often we are to focussed on ourselves in life. what WE want, what makes US happy, we forget that true love is an acceptance of who we are, it is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be and at the same time will never be. we forget that we should wish happiness for the other party. if you can't provide the happiness, then let someone else more capable take over it. i once read a story along the same line:
X bought a dog when it was a puppy. he cared for it greatly, but it did not seem happy. however X held on to it not only because he liked the dog, but because he paid quite a lot of money for it. one day the dog disappeared from home and he was frantic. search posters, calls of enquiry, he exhausted all avenues of communication. then one day he found his dog with an elderly couple in the next street. he was furious, thinking that the couple stole the dog from him. however he saw that the dog really didn't want to leave when he picked it up. after walking down the street, he turned back and handed it back to the couple "i think you can bring it more happiness than i ever can".
just like that. you can't bring something/someone happiness, let it go. don't be too preoccupied with personal wants.
why did i like this movie? as i've said before, i watch too much drama serials. three, four, up to eight-way relationships aren't new, and they are boring. not to mention most hollywood dramas are unreal. it looks like they forced two people together more than anything. it's just so uncommon to come across one flick that expresses the fundamental philosophy of love as well as this one does. AND it's sad to see them go through multiple trials (but we see that all the time) and yet still stick together when someting like memory loss sets in. i ask myself: not even counting Alzheimer's, just 30 years or so down the road, how many people will still have me in their hearts? i didn't dare to answer that question.
...
ok today was a pretty boring day. thanks cw for coming down to mug. at least it wasn't so depressing =D and paul postponed PW meeting because he had something on today. so... i can only collect my debt from NLB tomorrow.
read your blog paul. nice to know you feel something when a joke gets carried too far yourself. don't mean to imply anything, but i think you needed it. somehow i think most people don't know when is "too far" you have to experience it yourself. just because someone keeps silent doesn't mean he/she doesn't feel anything.
and the class wants to go KBOX after CT... well i'm not good with english and chinese songs, seriously... i'm more comfortable with the jap ones that i know. yes they only constitute a handful, 16 at max, but those i really know well. and i've translated them word-by-word so i mroe or less have a feel of what they mean. english and chinese... eh... no interest, sorry. too bad KBOX doesn't carry japanese titles eh?
